What an exciting weekend this has been for all of us! "The Seven Pawns" has done extremely well and will do EVEN BETTER once the hardcopies are available which will be in the next few weeks!
I just have to thank everyone for their overwhelming love and support. The most helpful thing y'all have done and continue to do is spread the word about this book series. With that being said, I want to share a little bit about the "why's" behind the Epta Chronicles.
"The Little Princess" was the first novel I ever picked up at the tender age of seven. Mama had instilled her love of books in my own heart and she fed me with the classics. "Little Women", "Little House of the Prairie", "Ramona", and so on. My darling nanny read aloud "A Series of Misfortunate Events" and "The Chronicles of Narnia." Both these women were well aware of how much of an effect the written word can have so therefore they were cautious of what they allowed in my head.
As I grew older, I began to read my own choices of books. "Harry Potter" and "Percy Jackson" were a couple of my favorites but then... well, I gave into peer pressure. All the girls in my class were reading this "Wicked" series or something like that. It was all about vampires and dark magic. Unlike "Harry Potter" which was light and gentle, this series delved deep into a very sinister side of literature. I wasn't a Christian at the time and so those books played a negative role in my life.
Next, I read "The Summer I Turned Pretty" and it's sequel, "It's Not Summer Without You." Oh y'all. These books were so harmful for a thirteen year old to read! It had swearing, drugs, and encouraged pre-marital sex. Belly, the protagonist, grew up too fast and this was praised! Such harmful lessons for a young kid to learn.
When I began "The Seven Thrones", I determined something. I was going to provide young readers, reminiscent of myself, with an exciting story. Filled with adventures, battles, queens and kings, and a good, old fashioned villain. Plus one more crucial thing.
A clean read.
No swearing. No sex. No drugs. No encouragement of living in a way that's harmful to others. Not just for Christians either. For all kids who are starving for a new book to read. That, at least for me, makes it all the more important for "The Seven Thrones" and "The Seven Pawns" to reach everyone it possibly can.
I hope you enjoyed this testimony of mine! Feel free to leave a comment or head over to the "Contact Me" section! I would love to hear from you.
